Thornton-le-Dale Prospect Farm, in the area of Ryedale, is situated on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park, a mile from the picturesque village of Thornton Dale which has all local amenities, traditional pubs and restaurants.

Ryedale offers one of the most diverse landscapes in England. The dramatic landscape of the moors, the tranquil hills of the Yorkshire Wolds and the beautiful coastline make it an area of outstanding natural beauty - perfect for exploring and outdoor activities.

Relax and explore the historic nearby towns of Helmsley, Kirkbymoorside and Thirsk to name but a few. If day trips are your thing, why not visit and enjoy the beautiful grandeur of Castle Howard, featured in the popular television programmes of Brideshead Revisited and the 1995 mini-series The Buccaneers, with its incredible rooms and breathtaking gardens.
Dalby, the great Yorkshire forest, offers 8,000 acres of woodland, ideal for walkers and mountain bikers with way-marked trails for all abilities.

Relax and explore historic villages, stately homes, beautiful gardens, abbeys, castles or museums - the local attractions are endless.

Maybe a steam engine trip to Goathland commonly known as ‘Aidensfield’ and home to Heartbeat will satisfy your wandering instinct, taking you deep into the delightful North Yorkshire Moors and as far as Whitby if you wish.
Castle Howard
Stream Train North Yorkshire Moors Railway. From the market town of Pickering to Grosmont, steam trains take visitors through 18 miles of stunning countryside on one of the worlds oldest railway lines. Trains call at Levisham and Goathland (Aidensfield in TVs ‘Heartbeat’ series).

The Moors Bus - a greener way to discover Ryedale. There are six routes covering the whole of the North York Moors and surrounding area. Embark at Thornton Dale if you wish, plan your day and travel to the destination of your choice.

If cities are your interest Prospect Farm is situated a short 45 minutes drive from the hustle and bustle of York, a city devoted to its Viking history with castles and museums, exciting shops and restaurants or perhaps a relaxing boat trip through the city on the river Ouse.
The coastline is also a short drive away. Discover the hidden treasures of Whitby or the tranquillity of Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay and Filey. Picturesque Scarborough boasts two bays, the quiet north bay with impressive castle ruin and outdoor theatre and the more lively south bay with seaside amusements and donkey rides on the beach – perfect to satisfy guests of all ages.
